The Process

How We Work

01

Refurbishment or Demolition Survey

Before any licensed removal, a full refurbishment or demolition survey is conducted to identify all ACMs, confirm their type and condition, and produce a detailed abatement plan.

02

HSE Notification

For licensed work, we submit advance notification to the HSE at least 14 days before works commence, as required by CAR 2012. We manage this process on your behalf.

03

Licensed Enclosure

A full enclosure is constructed with polythene sheeting and airlocks. Negative pressure units maintain airflow from clean to dirty areas, preventing fibre migration to surrounding areas.

04

Four-Stage Clearance

On completion, the enclosure undergoes a four-stage clearance: visual inspection, background air test, clearance air test, and final visual check. A clearance certificate is issued by an independent analyst.

05

Disposal & Documentation

All asbestos waste is transported to a licensed disposal facility. Full waste transfer notes, clearance certificate, and all survey documentation are provided on completion.

FAQs

Common Questions

What materials require a licensed contractor?

Licensed work is required for asbestos insulation board (AIB), asbestos insulation (pipe lagging, boiler insulation), sprayed asbestos coatings, and any work where the risk assessment indicates a high probability of fibre release. A full list is provided in the HSE's CAR 2012 guidance.

How do I check if a contractor is HSE licensed?

You can verify a contractor's HSE asbestos licence on the HSE website at hse.gov.uk. All licensed contractors must display their licence number. Pro Asbestos Removal's licence details are available on request.

What is the difference between licensed and non-licensed work?

Licensed work involves high-risk materials where fibre release is likely to be significant. It requires an HSE licence, advance HSE notification, health surveillance for operatives, and a higher level of control measures. Non-licensed work involves lower-risk materials such as asbestos cement and Artex.

Do you carry out licensed work in commercial properties?

Yes. We regularly carry out licensed asbestos removal in commercial properties including offices, schools, hospitals, industrial buildings, and public sector premises across Surrey, London, and the South East.

How long does licensed asbestos removal take?

This depends on the scope of works. A single room AIB removal may take 2–3 days. A full building licensed abatement programme may take several weeks. We will provide a detailed programme with your quotation.
